The Bear was originally going to release on September 28th but was unfortunately delayed. This retelling is set in the old west and is loosely based on the Lone Ranger. don’t believe me. Just look at this cover!
Wunstaponia #2 Once upon a time, way out west…
Two sisters live in a forest with their mother, just outside the town of Wunstaponia. That’s just how they like it, but one day, an injured stranger stumbles into their chicken pen. He doesn’t want to give his name, but they quickly find themselves tangled into his troubles, unraveling a mystery of betrayal and stolen treasure.
The Bear is the second book in the Tales of Wunstaponia. A western themes series of fairytale retellings. Book one was Sleeping Beauty and I’m looking forward to book three which will tackle Cinderella.
Rachel Roden is a natural storyteller, capable of weaving the most hilarious of fairy tales. She fell in love with the Lone Ranger in her teens, but ended up with a basketball referee instead. A homeschool mom of four, she also teaches with VIP Kids and tutors any other kid who wanders across her path. She might also be the sole human who still uses math after college.
For all of you eagerly awaiting the the last Frosted Roses release, I am sorry to report that the last book, The Bear, has been delayed until October 28th. It’s still on pre-order for ninety-nine cents.
Today I’m very excited to share the cover of a upcoming historical fantasy, The Fey of Castle Garden, by Naomi P. Cohen.
About the book:
New York City, 1859: On Samhain night, a mage pledged to the Wild Hunt is violently murdered. Tensions between the Hunt and Triona, Fey Queen of Central Park, heat up and threaten to boil over into a full-scale conflict.
Sofia De Benedetti, mage and musician in Triona’s court, has her hands full making enough money to support herself and help women who are down on their luck in the rough corners of the city. Now a fey war looms and a mage killer is on the prowl. Everything Sofia has built since immigrating, and her life itself, is at risk. With the help of a cait sidhe and a tempestuous storm fey, Sofia must find the murderer before the streets of the city erupt into a magical battleground.
Isn’t this a gorgeous cover? Of course if any remembers the book I recently published, then you know I have a love of books with a girl playing violin on the cover. (If you don’t remember Runaway Lyrics, it now has it’s own page on my site menu. Go check it out.)
We are taking a break from the Frosted Roses tour to bring you a guest post from author H.L. Burke. This is part of her blog tour for the release of Power On her new superhero YA novel.
Why-A: Guest post from H.L. Burke
Why-A?
Why YA would make more sense but WHY-A was too good a pun to resist.
Where was I?
I am usually very easily distracted. It is unusual for me to stick with a story world beyond a handful of books. Normally I get to the end of a trilogy or a quadrology and maybe I’ve got a couple of short stories left to fill in some gaps, but not much else. I’m ready to move on, find something new. Something shinier.
For whatever reason, my superheroes won’t let me go. My original four book series plan turned into five plus a short story prequel then a two novella spin off series. That was a lot of books for me. It was time to move on, so I’d decided to retire my main couple but what would they do. Well, they had a baby now. Maybe they’d quit superheroing for her … but I couldn’t see them quitting the game altogether and I kind of wanted to see how Fade and Prism were as parents … what if they decided to continue rehabilitating supervillains but with a focus on at risk teens instead of adult supervillains?
Dang it.
I have to write this now, don’t I?
And here’s where I’ll admit … the main reason I took the series in a YA direction is I really really really like writing Fade as a Dad.
I’m nearly fifteen years into my marriage, and for almost fourteen of that, my husband has been a dad (we had our first daughter a month after our first anniversary and of course there were nine months of pregnancy preceding that). I love being a mom, but I super love being married to a dad. I like the aura of protection. I like the way it makes a tough guy show his gentle side. I even like the jokes.
So while the focus of the story is on the teens, watching Fade and Prism grow as parents, both with their own infant children and the teens they take in and come to care for was my favorite part. Plus Fade’s dad joke game is strong:
“What’s the prize?” Marco asked.
“It’s a sir,” Fade said from where he stood behind his wife, holding Ruby.
“A what?” Marco scrunched up his face in confusion.
“A sir-prize.” Fade winked.
All three of the teens groaned.
Plus the main character of this series, Jake, is in desperate need of a strong but loving role model … if only he can bring himself to trust Fade and the rest of the folks at camp long enough to let him fill that gap.

Jake’s family ties have turned to cuffs.
Born with the ability to fragment his body at a molecular level, Jake Lucas has devoted his life to his uncle’s supervillain gang. When he’s captured by superheroes, he’s certain his life is over at only sixteen.
To Jake’s surprise, he doesn’t end up in prison but at Camp Sable: an intervention project for at-risk super powered teens. Jake’s not interested in rehabilitation. As far as he’s concerned, the camp mentors are just a barrier between him and his true family, the Sand Fox gang.
Forced to work alongside the likewise screwed up duo of fire-powered Marco and electricity manipulator Laleh, Jake waits for the perfect escape opportunity. Having friends and the chance at a real family is more appealing than Jake originally thought, but going soft can cost a supervillain his life. Jake soon finds the forces fighting to control his life threatening to tear him apart.
Will Jake choose to remain the villain his uncle made him, or become the hero his new friends think he can be?

Welcome back to the Frosted Roses Blog Tour. We are up to book number five of our Six fairy-tale retellings. Tocays book is Secret’s of the Mountain by Wyn Estelle Ownes. This Snow White and Rose Red takes the classic tale and gives it a Norse twist.
Here are links to my posts about the previous four books:
If there’s one thing Svanhilda has always known, it’s the importance of family. When her little sister Rósfrída was born, Svanhilda promised her mother that she and her sister would stick together. But as the years passed, tragedy after tragedy befell her family, ripping it apart piece by piece, until only Svanhilda remains at home with her ailing mother. And Rósfrída? She has stayed with Svanhilda, as they promised long ago—every time Svanhilda looks at her reflection, she sees her little sister instead, trapped in a prison of mirrors and treasure. Their only hope is that either their seafaring Father or Rósfrída’s strange bear friend might find a way to free her.
Tryggvi lost his mother and father a long, long time ago—so long ago that he barely remembers them. When a boy prince named Asbjǫrn finds him wandering in the woods, he takes Tryggvi home and calls him brother, and his parents welcome Tryggvi as their son. Some years later, Asbjǫrn leaves to study for a year… but he never returns, and is thought dead and gone. But Tryggvi is convinced his brother still lives–and not without evidence. So, now that he is finally old enough, Tryggvi sets out to find Asbjǫrn, armed with his cat and an amber pendant which enables him to see the truth of things. And he will find out the truth and bring his big brother home. After all, he promised his baby sister he would, and that’s not a promise he’s willing to break.
On the mountain there is a cave, and in the cave there is a mirror, and in that mirror live two friends: a girl and a bear, trapped in secrets, imprisoned by treasures of great worth. But help is coming, and the secret deeds done in darkness will be revealed, and the prisoners will be set free.
Wyn Estelle Owens is the penname of a young woman who’s still figuring out what this whole ‘adult’ thing is all about. She lives in a big, old house in Maryland by a Hundred Acre Wood (dubbed Neldoreth) with her parents, three occasionally obnoxious brothers, her dog Jackie, and her personal plot bunny, Joker. She is fond of reading, writing, drawing, speaking in dead or imaginary languages, playing videogames, quoting classic or obscure literature, being randomly dramatic, and generally making things out of yarn. Her dream is to write stories that inspire people to chase after the wonderful world of storytelling. Her favorite all-time authors are Anne Elisabeth Stengl, Christa Kinde, and above all, J.R.R. Tolkien, who first inspired her to pursuing novel writing when she read the Hobbit at the age of seven.
Welcome to the fourth release for the Frosted Roses Fairy-tale blog tour.

Today I’m hosting a Dive in review for Gilded in Ice. But first a little about the story.
Bastian has two new missing person cases. One is cold. The other is his own sister.
Since his success solving the Midnight Show disappearances, Bastian Dennel is sitting pretty. And with the new high-profile cold case that just got dropped in his lap, he’s pretty sure things will stay that way for a while. But when he finds out his sister has gone missing without a trace, he’s determined to find her and bring whoever’s responsible to justice — even if his only lead is a stray cat with a knack for vanishing unexpectedly. : Gilded in Ice
Kona Dennel’s plans have already been upended, so when the talking cat she’d befriended asked her for help breaking an enchantment, she didn’t see any reason not to say yes. She didn’t expect to be trapped in a frozen mansion or to be drawn into conflict with a mysterious lady of the fair folk. Even the cat is hiding more secrets than she realized. It’ll take a skilled detective to untangle this web . . . but since Bastian isn’t here, Kona will just have to do it herself.
Secrets abound, and the one creature who knows the truth isn’t talking. Can Bastian and Kona outwit a fae who’s been at this for centuries? Or will thawing out the long-frozen truth drop them in over their heads?
A magical mystery reimagining Snow White and Rose Red and East of the Sun, West of the Moon in the jazz-age world of The Midnight Show.
Sarah Pennington has been writing stories since before she actually knew how to write, and she has no intention of stopping anytime soon. She is perpetually in the middle of writing at least one or two novels, most of which are in the fantasy and fairy tale retelling genres. Sarah’s first published work, Blood in the Snow, received a perfect score and Special Unicorn status in Rooglewood Press’s Five Poisoned Apples contest. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys knitting, photography, and trying to conquer her massive to-be-read list.
Gilded in Ice by Sarah Pennington is the second book in her fairy-tale series about private investigator Bastian Dennel. This series is set in an alternate world were the Fair Folk are everywhere and magic causes most of the problems.
This first book is titled The Midnight Show, the events of which are referenced frequently. So I recommend reading them in order.
This installment has a bit of Snow White and Rose Red, and a bit of East of the sun West of the moon. (Or maybe it’s the other way around. I can never remember.)
Gilded in Ice follows Bastian’s sisters Kona and Roselle. The SW and RR characters for this retelling. One cold winter they let in a stray cat to share their home. (No bears here.) And come summertime both the cat and Kona mysteriously vanish.
Now if you are familiar with either or both of those fairy tales, then you can probably guess what happened. But you don’t really know the story, because mashing both of these stories together and setting it in a prohibition era PI novel completely changes the game.
The best part of this isn’t the twist ending, it’s the investigation. I love detective stories because I love watching people reason things out. How the investigator finds and puts the pieces together is what makes the story work, and this book works really well.
I also enjoyed seeing how the author seamlessly worked in the events of the first book to tie the two cases together. So I’m going to repeat my earlier recommendation. READ THESE BOOKS IN ORDER! You will be glad you did.
I received an early review copy of this novel and am leaving this review honestly and without coercion.
Today’s Release is As Long as we Live by Cortney Manning. I’m just spotlighting her book here because it’s an Epic fantasy at 100k words. I did not have time to read it before this post went up. I will say that it does sound interesting and I eagerly await the time to read it. Also, the cover is gorgeous.
As Long as We Live
Book Description:
Three human sisters live in a Fae realm where every prince is blessed or cursed by a gift of magic, and royal rivalry threatens the future of the land.
Ivy Durran, the oldest sister, is a resilient young woman who clings to her sunny resolve even in the darkest situation. When a terrible blizzard strikes the land, she feels responsible for protecting her sisters: adventurous Rose and vivacious Poppy. However, the storm drives an unexpected visitor to their doorstep, one who could bring hope or danger with his arrival.
Meanwhile, Pierre, the newly crowned ruler of Concoria, strives to bring order to his frozen land and tranquility to his troubled brothers. Nevertheless, the deep magic of Concoria is not easy to tame. While Pierre would love nothing more than to escape into a simple life close to Ivy, the human lass he met years before, he instead shoulders his burdens and seeks healing for his kingdom and family.
Dark magic, frigid storms, and deadly predators must be overcome if Ivy and Pierre have any hope of saving their families and their homeland.
Cortney Manning resides in Florida but has always loved traveling the world. She holds a master’s degree in Victorian Literature from the University of Glasgow and has a not-so-secret love of fantasy as well. Her writing can be found on her website, on https://gohavok.com/, and in the Rooglewood Press anthology, Five Poisoned Apples. In her free time, Cortney enjoys walking, drawing, and afternoon tea.

Runaway Lyrics is out in the world and I am nervous.
People can buy it. They can read it. What if no one likes it?
(hides book baby from everyone)
Thankfully I was lucky enough to be part of the Frosted Roses Release. The amazing Kendra E. Ardnek put together a blog tour for six new books all based on the same fairy-tale — Snow White and Rose Red.
My Book is the first to release; it’s so much pressure.
It’s good though, because now I can’t hide it. I have a whole host of bloggers all posting about my book today. Also Kendra made me a ton of fancy graphics with my book in them.
Check out the awesome blogs below, to learn all about Runaway Lyrics:
Edit to state that all of the blogs have been updated and the link to will take you directly to the Runaway Lyrics post on that site.
And of course don’t forget to buy a copy! It’s available on Amazon in paperback, ebook, and Kindle Unlimited!
If you read it will you consider leaving a review on Amazon and Goodreads? Or you can even just pop back over to this post to let me know what you thought.
If you have been following this blog at all in the past year then you should know that I love the Superhero Rehabilitation project series by H.L. Burke.
These books are fun, snarky adventures that aren’t afraid to bring some strong feels to the table.
And her newest instalment is no different. While Power On is technically the first book in a new series, it takes place shortly after the official end of the adult series.
Because that series was about adults not because it had adult content. This series is about teenagers and so is really a YA series. Though we all know that calling a book YA isn’t going to keep me from reading it. It pretty much ensures that I will read it.
So without future ado, let me show you the cover for Power On, The first book in the Supervillain Rescue Project series.

Welcome back today’s cover reveal is the newest installment in the Steel City Genie series from author Janeen Ippolito. If you are new to my blog or maybe you just missed my posts on the first two books in this series you can find them here.
To Celebrate the cover reveal for book three Janeen has made the first and second books for on Amazon for a few days so grab them while you can. (Please verify prices before ordering, as free promotion may not carry over into all markets.)
And now introducing book three: Wishing Against the House.
My city is under attack by shadowfiends. Apparently, this is my fault, thanks to the family I’ve never met.
At least the attack interrupted my first couples therapy session with Cendric. Small blessings, right?
Then my long-lost dad—yeah, the one that’s supposed to be dead—shows up to tell me that the shadowfiends are controlled by Raith, an old family member who’s here to recharge his magical batteries by any means necessary, including destroying Pittsburgh and me. Oh, and centuries ago, Raith picked a fight with the local dragons, so they’re after me as well.
Now I have to learn my family’s magic, stop Raith’s path of destruction, and make nice with the dragons. Speaking of which, did I mention my oh-so-quiet secretary has eloped with one of the dragons’ worst enemies?
Personally, all I want for Christmas is to survive until New Year’s. And maybe, a vacation.
