Second Chance Superhero Cover Reveal

If you have read this blog for any amount of time, you know I am in love with the Superhero books by H.L. Burke. Her newest book releases next month and I am so excited! I was a beta reader for this book and it was amazing, So for this cover reveal I’m also giving you my honest opinion.

SECOND CHANCE SUPERHERO BLURB

Once a slacker, now a superhero, but will his ex buy the change?

Eleven years ago, Brayden Water’s high school sweetheart slammed the door in his face. Floundering, he found purpose first in the military, then by volunteering for genetic enhancements and joining the Department of Super-Abled as a full-time hero. Just when everything’s looking up, a family emergency summons him back to the hometown he gleefully put in his rearview. And guess who else is back in town?

Rachel Blum has had it with men in general. A single mom who managed to scratch her way through medical school, she’s accepted that she can’t depend on anyone … especially not her sometimes criminal baby daddy, and definitely not her high school ex who has popped up out of nowhere after a decade of radio silence. Dang, though, Brayden’s even hotter than she remembered, and there’s … something different about him now, though she can’t quite put her finger on what. Could he really have finally gotten his act together? Can she take the risk?

Brayden’s bitterness over Rachel’s rejection slowly turns to admiration and begrudging affection. But even if he drops the fact that he can now fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes, will she ever see him as anything but a small-town loser? When her son’s father starts causing trouble, though, Brayden realizes, she might just need a hero in her life after all.

A review from me:

Second Chance Superhero chronologically follows Accidentally a Supervillain, But officially this is book three in the Superhero Romance Project, and so technically follows Superhero Ever After.

This book is a swoony in all the right ways. Wholesome ways, hilarious ways, and heroic ways. I always love the Characters in this series, but these are especially sweet. Because they dated in highschool Brayden and Rachel have so much on page chemistry.

But of all the cozy superheroes — can superheroes be cozy? If they can this is probably the Coziest. The big fight, scenes are only in the beginning and the end. And only the villains in the beginning are a real threat. It really feels like a look at what real life would be like for a real superhero. I love superpowers but seriously, this book would be an easy special effects budget. (What are you waiting for Hallmark?)

Reading this book is like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket, lighting a scented candle, putting in a Marvel movie and pulling up your shopping cart of wine. (I promise that last part will make sense when you read it.)

This book was even better because of the amount of inside jokes that you get when you know the Author personally. I would tell them all to you — but you really had to be there.

As always, I read an early version of this book for the LOLs. Then I decided, all on my own, to inflict my opinion of it on you.

REVIEWS FROM EARLY READERS:

“Can superheroes be cozy? Second Chance Superhero is the novel equivalent of a Marvel movie, a shopping cart of wine, and a scented candle.”

— C.O. Bonham, author of Runaway Lyrics (That’s Me!)

“Great story! It’s like a Hallmark movie with a sci-fi budget.”

— Max B. Sternberg, author of The Rhise of Light

“H.L. Burke’s superhero books just keep getting better and better! (And they were amazing to begin with.) I have devoured every book in the series and eagerly await each new release. In Second Chance Superhero, I was sucked in to Brayden’s and Rachel’s plight, rooting for them to overcome their pasts, and couldn’t stop reading. No matter which book you pick up in this series, I highly recommend!”

— Michele Israel Harper, award-winning editor and author of Kill the Beast

Second Chance Superhero is a new Superhero Romance from author H.L. Burke and part of the longer, multi-series SVR/DOSAverse expanded universe of superhero fiction.

The book launches on September 9th, but you can pre-order it on Amazon.

It’s a tale of love after heartbreak, coming home, and second chances featuring a cocky but damaged superhero and the high school sweetheart who broke his heart but is now a single mom (and doctor)  haunted by her own past… also, French fries, a cart-load of wine, and surprisingly high number of dinosaurs.

Season’s of Soldark Cover Reveal

I know what you’re thinking. I promised to do more content that wasn’t a cover reveal. But this one and the next one are special. I was an early reader, so you get reviews too!

Actually, to say I was an early reader for season’s of Soldark is wrong. The book is technically already out. You can go to Amazon right now and get all four novellas in the series: https://amzn.to/3E5wiTA*

Season’s of Soldark is just the collected omnibus version for those who like their books all in one place.

Seasons of Soldark
Novella Collection
by Liz Delton
Publisher: Tourmaline & Quartz Publishing LLC

Book Blurb:

Ignite your destiny.

Welcome to the city of Soldark, where four women forge their own paths through the seasons in this novella collection.

Mae. A seamstress down on her luck, but chasing her destiny.
Verity. The clockmaker’s daughter, who gets in over her head after a theft.
Caz. The plucky journalist looking for her big break.
Aurelia. The ambitious inventor who’ll do anything for her family’s prosperity.

Join Mae, Verity, Caz, and Aurelia as you explore the four Seasons of Soldark novellas in one collection.

  • Spectacle of the Spring Queen
  • The Mechanical Masquerade
  • All Hallows Airship
  • The Clockwork Ice Dragon

No world-ending plots. Just character-driven, low stakes, low fantasy, with a dash of steampunk.

Even more info on the books:

Here’s are the blurbs for the 4 novellas inside this collection, along with my reviews:

Spectacle of the Spring Queen: Mae Wright has always dreamed of opening her own seamstress shop, and when she inherits a premises in the illustrious city of Soldark, she thinks her dreams have come true. But misfortune strikes the moment she steps foot in the city, when she loses her money and her things after saving her dog from falling into the port. With the help of a local theater and its mysterious director, she’ll need to get back on her feet–but will her dreams of becoming a seamstress be the same after finding a new life in the theater?

My Review:

This novella follows Mae as she sets out for an exciting new life in the big city, only to be met with bad luck at every turn.

I was really impressed with Mae’s positive attitude. Whenever something goes wrong she resolves to power through and work hard to improve her situation.

When it gets too tough, she finds help from an unlikely source. The theater is looking for a new costumer and she is a seamstress. How fortunate.

I loved the eclectic cast and the general theater atmosphere. The steampunk element shines in the mechanical engineering of the stage production.

This was an enjoyable and uplifting read that made me want to go see a live theater performance.

The Mechanical Masquerade: Verity Pennington has always wanted to attend the Midsummer Masquerade ball held by the elite society in Soldark. And when her best friend tells her she’s moving, and it’s their last chance to get in, Verity must tap into her creative side to pull off a mask that will allow her entrance. When a thief steals valuable clock plans from her father’s shop, and Verity knows he’s going to be at the ball, getting in isn’t just a fanciful idea anymore, but a daring escapade.

My Review:

How to describe this novella? It’s not quite a mystery, but also not exactly a heist, spy mission or even a romance. Without ruining the story all I can really say is that there was a theft and there is a plan to recover what was taken, but there will be twists along the way.

True to its summer theme, this story will make you wish you could go to a fair, and eat shaved Ice and funnel cakes. The Clockwork imagery is fantastical and the descriptions of the ball are gorgeous. The villain is truly nasty, and the heroine is brilliant. The Mechanical Masquerade is one you will want to attend.

All Hallows Airship: After a childhood illness, Caz Coppersdown is finally heading out of Soldark on her own, though she doesn’t consider her great aunt’s estate anything exciting. She’s more interested in tracking down a big news story that’ll get her published in the Soldark Times, but her aunt’s All Hallows soiree doesn’t seem too newsworthy. That is, until a catastrophic blast in town points fingers at innocent people. She’ll need to dig for facts quickly, because the constables are calling…

My Review:

I enjoyed this short Steampunk novella. It had a great Autum vibe with Halloween trappings without being creepy or overly scary.

All Hallows Airship has no supernatural elements. But it does have are a cute airship pilot and a mystery to solve.

This is the perfect story to get in the seasonal mood without worrying about nightmares.

The Clockwork Ice Dragon: Aurelia Sundon finally has a chance to get into the illustrious Inventor’s Guild. The only problem? The deadline for submitting her invention is Christmas Day. She thinks she’ll be able to swing it, until her ex-boyfriend shows her his competing invention, which has gone out of control and is covering the city in snow. As she decides whether to help him, the snow is getting deeper, and the clock is ticking..

My Review:

The Clockwork Ice Dragon is a delightful holiday tale of high hopes and determination. It’s also a light romance, about a guy just trying to impress a girl. He goes about it all wrong and a cautionary tale about how people do not know how to drive in snow.

I loved the fun steampunk aesthetic of this story. It would make a fun read for any time of the year but setting it at Christmas time added a certain context of wonder that made it special.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Collin Yeoh has wanted to be a writer all his life, and indeed has been writing professionally for 17 years. At some point, he remembered that advertising copy wasn’t what he wanted to write growing up as a lonely bookworm kid. Hamizah Adzmi is a storyteller and currently works as the Knowledge Mobilization Programme Officer for Musawah, an international women’s rights NGO. She pursued a MA in Creative Writing under the Chevening scholarship in 2016/2017, where she focused on writing fiction revolving around Malaysian women. She draws a lot of inspiration from diverse cultures around the world, particularly from the Far East and Southeast Asia, with speculative elements of her own invention thrown in for good measure. Her work has appeared in several anthologies and magazines, including The Big Book of Malaysian Horror Stories (Fixi Novo, 2022), Night Terrors: Vol. 21 (Scare Street, 2022), Tainted Love: Women in Horror (Twisted Wing productions, 2021), and NANG 3: Fiction (2017).

He is currently a medical student who finds time in between classes to write fiction and overthink his future.

A medical officer and quality manager by profession, Julia Alba has been writing fiction since she was a teenager. She loves a great story no matter the genre or the medium, whether it’s a book, a video game, an anime or a movie. Her bad habit is her inability to resist buying too much Harry Potter merchandise. Accidentally a Supervillain

Book 5 in the Supervillain Romance Project Series

Superpowers are a super pain.

The non-powered middle child of a superhero family, Abigail Park has always taken pride in being “the normal one.” No flying and throwing power blasts for her, thank you. Just a safe, steady office job, evenings in with her cat, and weekly hot yoga when she’s feeling adventurous. Genetics can be cruel.

When Abigail finds herself in the line of fire during a superhero and supervillain standoff, her latent abilities literally explode—blasting the HERO unconscious and catching the eye of sound-manipulating villain Thunderstruck. Threatening to send proof of her “aiding” him to the authorities, he blackmails her into helping him in his next big heist—against her own boss.

Abigail wants out, but as her antagonistic banter with Thunderstruck turns to something weirdly resembling flirting, the smirking villain hints that his intended target isn’t as innocent as Abigail believes him to be. Can Abigail get Thunderstruck to trust her with his secrets or is it all a cover for a more malevolent plan?

If Abigail can’t figure this out, she’s never going to hear the end of it at family dinners … if she even manages to make it out alive at all.

My Review of Thorns at Sunrise:

Thorns at Sunrise is the second book in a series of unique fairytale retellings from author Janeen Ippolito.

While the first book Met by Midnight was a loose take on Cinderella, Thorns at Sunrise sets out to tackle Sleeping Beauty. If the Prince had been the sleeping one. Although the girl is now, the hero Thorns at Sunrise maintains a balance between both POVs and avoids the easy “girl power” narrative. Urlisa and Petar have a healthy relationship and the feels are there for those who came for the romance.

Like Met by Midnight, Thorns at Sunrise also includes original poetry, that compliments the prose.
The author is also a poet in her own right and I wondered which came first, the story or the poem?

If you live for fairytale retellings, this is one series you won’t want to miss. Met by Midnight and Thorns at Sunrise share characters, so I recommend reading them in order for maximum enjoyment.

I was blessed with an early review copy from the author, the above review is my fair and honest evaluation of the provided work.

In addition, special edition hardbacks of Met by Midnight and Thorns at Sunrise are also available.

The special edition hardbacks will feature all-new illustrated covers by Kristen Hildebrand/Magpie Designs.

So as you can probably guess the real title is NOT The Gift of Dragons 2. That was just me not wanting to give away the title in my title. Would you like to take a guess before I reveal it? The second book will have a four word title.

Give up yet?

Let me tell you a little about the book while you mull it over.

In the sequel, Adelaide, with her newfound dragon-powers and dragon friends must stop the Gyndilians to save all of Klinhun.

But the burden seems too much for Adelaide, and secrets abound in the land of Gyndilad that threaten to destroy everything she cares about.

To save those she loves once and for all, Adelaide must overcome not only the Gyndilians, but also the doubts inside her.

And the title of the sequel to THE GIFT OF DRAGONS is the HOPE OF DRAGONS!

The sequel is not up for pre-order yet so if you are new to this series you have plenty of time to catch up.

When the prince Adelaide seeks to overthrow tries convincing her that the legendary dragons exist and need help, Adelaide must decide where her true allegiance lies before the kingdom shatters.

Ever since the Gyndilians murdered her sister, Adelaide has plotted a rebellion to overthrow the king and prince who failed to protect them during the attack. Following her across the country is a stranger — not just any stranger, but the prince she’s hoping to overthrow — and Adelaide’s plans begin to collapse. But Prince Elias has his own dangerous secrets — secrets connected to the dragons that once lived in the land. If he can’t earn Adelaide’s trust, there may never be any peace for Adelaide, her people, or the dragons.

In The Gift of Dragons by Rachel A. Greco, the fate of two species rests on the tip of a dagger. Can Adelaide overcome her prejudices and thirst for revenge to do what’s best for her people before rage and sorrow consume her?

Rachel A. Greco dreams of being a dragon but has settled instead for being an author, which is almost as fun. Her short story, Fairy Light, won an honorable mention in the Writer’s Digest Annual Writing Competition. When not writing, she can be found reading, kayaking, or dancing with elves in the forests of her North Carolina home.

Cover Reveal: Prophetess of Arden

Today I’m helping reveal the cover for this new book but I have nothing for you just the cover. No description, no pre-order link, no Goodreads link. Why? Because this reveal was on Bookstagram but I am not on Instagram so I have to post here.

I can tell you that this book is the first book in an epic fantasy series called the King and Prophet Chronicles. I am reasonably sure it takes place in a kingdom called Arden. I can also tell you with certainty that there is also a prophetess in this book. I am even willing to bet that she is the main character.

I can also tell you that I am an early ARC reader for this novel and as soon as I finish it I will share a review here for you, right now I have one more book to read before I can get to it.

Prophetess of Arden is expected to release on or around March 24th.

Cover Reveal: The Orb and the Airship

Today I have a special Cover reveal. The Author has provided teasing graphics I will share in between telling you about the book.

About the book:

A rogue airship captain. An ambitious youth. A clash of powers beyond their imagination.

With scholarships to a prestigious military school, Grayden and Wynn are thirsty for adventure. But the night before they leave, they discover the mysterious Dalmir and his arcane orb in the forsaken tower outside of town. The old man, who seems to have a wealth of knowledge of what came before and yet so little of the now, insists on accompanying them as they travel to the academy.

Meanwhile, all pirate Captain Marik wants is to keep to the skies, take his due, and care for his crew. Then a straightforward pillaging mission on a ship of fresh academy students leads to betrayal from one of his own and an unlikely friendship forged by necessity.

Yet this new alliance stirs up ancient foes and a conflict too terrible to ignore. Despite Grayden’s inexperience and Marik’s skepticism, working together with Dalmir is their only option.

The fate of the world depends on it.

A clean steampunk fantasy adventure filled with steadfast friendship, brotherhood, twisty politics, and epic airship battles.

About the Autor:

Jenelle first fell in love with stories through her father’s voice reading books aloud each night. A relentless opener-of-doors in hopes of someday finding a passage to Narnia, it was only natural that she soon began making up fantastical realms of her own. Jenelle currently resides in the wintry tundra of Wisconsin —which she maintains is almost as good as Narnia — with her knight-in-shining armor and their four hobbits. When she is not writing, she homeschools said hobbits and helps them along on their daily adventures… which she says makes her a wizard.
