If you have been following this blog for any length of time then you probably know I love books by author H.L. Burke. She mostly writes snarky fantasy with a touch of romance. But her newest book is new territory. Reformed is the first book in her new superhero series, The Supervillain Rehabilitation Project. If you are like me then you are already obsessed with all the marvel movies. This book so far is very much like a marvel movie Quick one liners, compelling characters, and a mysterious villain who you want to hate but kind of relate to them anyway. (but then I relate to most villians.)

Once a villain, always a villain?
Optimistic and idealistic superhero Prism is determined to redeem her father’s legacy by rebooting his super villain rehabilitation program. To do so, she sets her sights on Fade, the relapsed super villain who was the reason the government canceled the original program in the first place. However, when she petitions for Fade to be released into her custody, she finds out things might not be as simple as she thought.

Convicted of an unforgivable crime, Fade received a choice: surrender to trial and possible execution or endure a memory erasure so he could start fresh. Now with no recollection of his time before incarceration, Fade doubts he has the ability to be anything but the villain the public believe him to be.

A series of attacks by a mysterious power-swapping villain points back to Fade’s past and the crime that cost him his freedom and memory. With her father’s legacy and her own reputation on the line, even Prism has to wonder: can a villain truly be reformed?

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and was always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes that home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.
She is the author of a four part fantasy/romance series entitled “The Dragon and the Scholar,” the Award Winning (2016 Realm Award for Young Adult Fiction) Nyssa Glass Steampunk series, and MG/Fantasy “Cora and the Nurse Dragon,” among others .

Kamryn Kensington is a wonderfully relate-able heroine. She may be an adult in years but like many she still struggles with ‘adulting.’ Her passion’s and dreams are taking her in a different direction than her older sister would have her go. Unfortunately, when the two siblings butt heads it’s Kam’s head that takes the hit. Right at the bottom of the stairs. When she wakes up in the land of Ur she has some questions. What she gets is a mission from a very shifty Oracle, but few answers.

Zy has no memory of life before ruling her moon. And it doesn’t bother her in the slightest. Each day is the same: get yelled at by her mother—who is not happy to have been dragged along to the moon’s wasteland—stroll through her town to ensure everything is running smoothly, and then dance under the stars until the Silvers show up for their nightly battle.

From the 2020 Love Letters Short Stories Challenge, here are fourteen stories, letters and poems about love: love lost, love remembered, and love to be!

It’s Heart of the Curiosity by H.L. Burke. Every story has those minor characters that might only be mentioned once, these characters still need names. Towards the beginning of chapter thirteen, on page 127 of the print version is a character who is named but never shown. Cathrinia is a ballerina who is seriously hurt in an accident. Do you notice the lack of an e between the h and the r? That’s because she’s named after me. Cathrine, without the e in the middle. I was so excited and to see that, because H.L. didn’t give me a heads up.

includes my story, “Seeing Double.” A story about what happened when too many wore the same costume.
